Santacruz Electronics Export Processing Zone (SEEPZ) was set up during 1973-74, under the Ministry of Commerce, Govt. of India in an area of 100 acres land leased by the Government of Maharashtra through the Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC) for promoting electronic exports. During 1987-88, the Government of India decided to permit manufacture and export of Gems & Jewellery also from the SEEPZ considering the high export potential and pollution free nature of industries in the Gems & Jewellery Sector. The Zone was converted as a Special Economic Zone w.e.f. 1 st November, 2000.For expansion of the Zone, the Govt. of Maharashtra allotted an area of 11 acres of land from the adjoining Aarey Milk Colony where SEEPZ ++ project has been developed, which forms part of the existing Zone Complex. The Zone Administration is located in the Marol area of Andheri (East) at SEEPZ Service Centre Building, SEEPZ-SEZ complex, MIDC Central Road, Andheri (East),Mumbai - 400 096.
The Development Commissioner SEEPZ-SEZ is also the Zonal Development Commissioner for all SEZs in Maharashtra, Goa & UT of Daman, Diu and Dadra & Nagar Haveli.
Functions and Duties
The functions and duties of the Zone Administration are in accordance with Chapter -VI of the Foreign Trade Policy and Chapter VI of the Handbook of Procedure, and SEZ Act, 2005 & SEZ Rule, 2006 , notified by the Government of India, Ministry of Commerce & Industry. The EOU Units located in the State of Maharashtra, Goa & Union Territory of Daman, Diu and Dadra & Nagar Haveli fall under the jurisdiction of Development Commissioner, SEEPZ-SEZ. Apart from this, the SEZs located in Maharashtra, Goa & Union Territory of Daman, Diu and Dadra & Nagar Havelifall under the jurisdiction of DC, SEEPZ-SEZ. |
